Milton Keynes city bike scheme

I was amazed and pleased to discover an on street citybike / bikeshare scheme in Milton Keynes.

Space for eight cycles on Woburn Sands High Street.

A decent amount of cycle parking here, and with a colourful theme. This was taken on a Saturday afternoon so only one bike there.

An underpass on the Milton Keynes Redway system.

The redway system normally has two nicely placed poles painted a bright yellow, e.g. #72502. Those standards have not been kept up at this development. Even the (correctly spelled) graffiti suggests a negative connotation: Public pole danci ... [more]

Milton Keynes Redway system. Curious green on yellow and then yellow on green signage. Some with distances, some without - what a mess!

Milton Keynes Redway system. An underused resource? I saw hardly anyone out on their bikes on this system, mostly a few dog walkers. It was a cold day, but by contrast the road network was jammed with shoppers.

Electric vehicle charging point. It didn't occur to me to see if it would charge electric bikes too! The sign explains that a prohibition on parking has been introduced for non electric vehicles in three spaces.

The dense bush on the left hides cyclists from traffic approaching this junction in Milton Keynes, see #64450.

There is a warning sign here because riders on the cycleway on the right where (between the white street name sign and the yellow post) are hidden by the dense bush which comes all the way to the road edge. See #64451. Milton Keynes

Route signage in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes has some great stretches of cycleway - here used by one jogger, but a cyclist did just pass.

Complicated road side signage that seems to suggest motor vehicle storage requires a permit between two one hour periods at each end of the working day. Perhaps this is because this residential estate is within convenient walking distanc ... [more]

Milton Keynes pernicious signage that suggests that this cycleway is only for the walker, that is backed up by the way the corduroy paving is laid. Also unusual here is the sign that is folded in the closed position.

Central Milton Keynes See #47932.

Central Milton Keynes This was not designed as a footway but the wear here suggests that it is used as such, despite lack of dropped kerbs.

Central Milton Keynes Rather too densely packed racks.

Milton Keynes Magistrates Court Among the signs breaking up this clean architecture are one asking to not leave bikes, one about cctv and one pointing to the disabled access.

Central Milton Keynes

Central Milton Keynes the sign screams NO CYCLING ON FOOTWAY but this is a cycleway - and that is why they have not used a NO CYCLING sign. Blue signs are advisory, not compulsory, and I view it as an abuse of that principle that ... [more]

Central Milton Keynes I think this is the red zone motor vehicle storage area - full on a Saturday afternoon.

Central Milton Keynes - isn't this awful? And not just the random capitalization!

The vicious persecution of Milton Keynes's only remaining cyclist continues!

Cycleway crosses road on a raised table.

The decaying redway system in Milton Keynes.

Redway blocked by a tight chicane. The alternative here is to have a raised table so that the footway is not angled down and motor vehicles slow down.

Local industrial estate with no cycle parking facilities

Complete lack of cycle facilities at this recently built local shopping centre, even though a cycle path runs past on the opposite side of the road

Millers Way is a 60mph Road and the T junction with McConnell Drive is very wide. Cyclists have to negotiate 3 lanes of traffic and the vision splay is poorly managed
